While the recent debate over the Gillard Government's Malaysian Solution has not swung the general public's opinion towards the potential refugee crisis, the refugees themselves have some new fans.
A Cunty Affair can report that the past few days, a large number of B- and C-list celebrities have been making the trek up to the detention centre on Christmas Island.
At first, we were led to believe that this was a mere refugee advocacy project. However, our research have discovered that there is indeed more to it than that. The recent low-end celebrity interest in refugees stems largely from their ability to continually stay relevant in the news and garner publicity, something beyond the ability of many of these celebrities.
"I'm just here to find out how they do it," were the words of a former bikini model who earned her fame after a high-profile romance and nude photo scandal. She begged us to print her name, however we were bound by journalistic...(OK, fine, it's Lara Bingle).
"I can only get in the headlines when I beat my girlfriend," were the words of Matthew Newton as he spoke with us in the yard of the detention centre. "These guys can get there just by stapling their mouths shut and refusing to eat. We have a lot to learn from them."
Detention centre officials would not speak on the record to A Cunty Affair, however they released a statement that stated "we welcome all celebrities, and more importantly their money, to the detention centre."
