Hey d00ds and d00dettes, today we've got Rex Banner in all their Bannery glory for your Free Music Friday. Loukas (aka SNAREZ aka one of the guitar dudes from Rex Banner) heartily endorsed our request to give away some of their songs, and he also found time in his busy schedule to give us the rundown on the stories behind them. These songs come from a split the Banner boys did with fellow Sydney band Homewrecker.
1. One Last Breath
It's been quite a while, so I'm actually listening to the songs while I write this haha. Kelly, Brendan and I were all pretty excited about retarded song titles (duh). For once we actually let Cotter name a song something sensible that related to the lyrical content. Lyrics-wise, One Last Breath was Cotter's brutal interpretation of life in brutal Auschwitz (brutal). Musically it featured some dumb time signatures (5/4 and I think the chorus was in 6/4?), and the over the top guitarmonies and tapping we were so fond of.
2. Forever the Sickest Cunts
Clearly a dumb song title (re: "Forever the Sickest Kids") - I don't even remember what the song was about. Something about mates and life and being awesome? It definitely had the dumbest gang vocals of all time at the end - YOU ARE MOSHING! ALWAYS MOSHING! Which someone accused us of ripping off from Parkway Drive (sinking, always sinking or whatever), but it was just a dumb forum in joke (like the entire existence of the band). If I recall correctly, there's a snippet of Kelly at the end saying (re: the gang vox) "OH MY GOD.. we just wrecked hardcore".
3. Life in the Freezer
This song has one of my favourite choruses and some fun riffs. Oh and the wah pedal at the end hahaha... yeah this takes me back. Were there any songs I didn't do solos in? I hope not. Kelly named this one I think, after one of those David Attenborough documentaries with penguins and polar bears.
Re: Rex Banner - Split EP
Hey Luke. The Life in the Freezer link is downloading Sickest Cunts also.
